Chapter 1.5 - "Surprise..."

This may seem a bit silly, but every time I found myself in this position, hugging the toilet for dear life, vomitting my guts out, it just didn't bother me. I'm going to be a mom, and something like this is just a small price to pay.

Doc got a job working at a clinic in town, which provided us with a fair bit of money. One day he came home and surprised me with a new dress I could wear while pregnant, since my old outfit was bursting at the seams.

"Doc, it's beautiful!" I said excitedly, looking down at the flowery dress. I wrapped my arms around him tightly, how did I get so lucky?

 

Doc then left to sell my paintings in town, and I was left alone. I didn't mind though, I just got to work on cleaning the house. I do this quite a bit, actually, it just makes me feel relaxed

 

 

I was peacefully cleaning the dirty toilet, when suddenly, I heard it... A sneeze.

 

I quietly crept into the kitchen, turning the corner, when I saw her...

 

 

 

I approached the pink-skinned girl furiously, "Who are you and what are you doing here?!" I snapped at her, and she shot back innocently.

 

"Calm down, please! It's not what it looks like!" She exclaimed worriedly, her high pitched voice pierced my ears.

 

I took a deep breath and started again, this time much more calm, "Who are you and what are you doing here?" I repeated.

 

 

"My name is Katana Heartwing, and I'm an elf. I lived in the elf kingdom of Nightlock in a flower patch far away, but I wanted to be more than just an elf. I visited a witch who gave me a potion that made me human size, I was so big I couldn't even see the kingdom after I grew. I was terrified, I didn't know what to do! I ran through the forest until I found your house, the door happened to be open, so I came in.. I- I'm sorry! Please don't hurt me..." She said, my face remained blank. This was so much to take in... Elves, kingdoms, witches! I'd never been exposed to such strange things my entire life.

 

Finally I spoke, "I'm Snow White, and you're welcome to stay here as long as you need to." I said, for if Doc hadn't taken me in, then I don't know where I'd be today.

 

Her face lit up and her green eyes twinkled, "Oh thank you Snow White! Thank you so much!" She sang, pulling me into a hug.

 

I laughed softly, eventually pulling away. "I'll have Doc make you a bed." I said with a smile. She tilted her head slightly, "Oh my apologies, Doc is my husband."

 

She smiled, "Oh." She said simply.

 

 

"So, what do you do?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.

 

"Hm..." She scratched her head, "I can garden!" She says excitedly, and her eyes widened.

 

I jumped slightly at her excitement, "Great..." I start, "I'm sure we can work something out." I conclude.

 

 

It's not long before Katana has a little garden planted outside, and she's already hard at work tending to it.

 

"I'll be inside if you need me..." I tell her, but she barely notices, she's much too consumed with her gardening.

 

 

I finally get back to my cleaning, and rush to finish the job before Doc gets home.

 

 

I finally finish my cleaning and decide to take a quick nap, just until Doc gets home.

 

 

"Snow... Wake up, Snow... Snow... Wake up..." I open my eyes slowly and find Doc hovering over the bed.

 

I slowly get up, trying to find out what's going on.

 

 

"Is something wrong, sweetie?" I ask curiously.

 

He crosses his arms, "Oh no, nothing... Oh wait, there is something... Who is the pink girl gardening outside my house?!" He snaps, and I suddenly remember Katana.

 

"Oh- Erm- That's Katana..." I say, and he gives me a look that says 'go on', "Well, she really needed a place to stay, so I might've told her she could stay here..." I say, speaking slowly, not wanting to upset him.

 

 

"I know, I know, I should've asked you first.. I'm sorry." I say, tilting my head down slightly.

 

He laughs a little, "Oh baby, I can't stay mad at you when you were just being a good person. I love you, and I forgive you." He says before pulling me into a warm embrace.

 

 

I pull back momentarily, "Oh, by the way, you kind of have to make a bed for her.." I say nervously.

 

"Snow!" He whines, frowning at me. "You'd better get painting then, since we don't have enough money to pay for materials." He says.

 

"But it's late.." I start, but he cuts me off.

 

"Snow.." He says, as if I'm a child.

 

"Fine." I say, turning and facing the easel unhappily.

 

 

I paint and paint, watching Doc sleep soundly. On one hand I'm exhausted and completely not in the mood, but on the other it's nice to just to feel isolated and relaxed, like it's just me and the canvas.

 

 

Then, suddenly, just as I'm finally relax, I hear the sneeze. "Katana!" I snap, turning around. My eyes dart to the spiral staircase and, sure enough, she's standing there watching me. She opens her mouth to speak, but I motion for her to go downstairs. Her head disappears to the first floor and I follow behind her, carefull not to wake Doc.

 

 

"I'm very sorry Snow, you were just so interesting, I didn't want you to stop.." She says, and I blush a little.

 

"Doc was sleeping, and he already doesn't have a very good impression of you.." I start, and her face drops.

 

"H-He doesn't like me?" She asks sadly, and I see tears forming at her eyes.

 

"No, no, no! Of course he likes you!" I say frantically, not wanting her to cry.

 

 

The conversation was cut off there, as I felt an intense pain growing in my stomach. "Ouch.." I said, leaning back to crack my back.

 

Katana gasped, "You pregnant?!"

 

I nodded slowly, hesitantly allowing her to feel my stomach.

 

 

"Speaking of which," I started, "I'm exhausted, I need to get to bed."

 

Katana nodded quickly, "Yes, yes of course! Don't worry about me, us elves don't sleep much anways." She said, smiling slightly.

 

"Okay then, goodnight." I say softly, heading upstairs.

 

 

I woke up to sounds of laughter coming from downstairs, so after getting dressed, I curiously headed downstairs.

 

 

"Goodmorning everyone.." I said hesitantly, surprised to see Katana and Doc together. "What are you guys up to?" I asked curiously.

 

"Snow! I have something to show you before I leave for work, follow me!" He ordered enthusiastically, and I followed curiously.

 

 

That wasn't there before.. I thought, looking at the out of place door.

 

 

"Surprise!" He exclaimed, opening the door and leading me into the beautiful room. "It's a nursery for the baby, and Katana will be staying in here too.

 

My jaw dropped, it was stunning! "Doc, I- I don't know what to say.. It's perfect!" I said excitedly, admiring the work of art.

 

 

 After Doc left for work, and Katana was hard at work on her garden, I decided to do some painting out on the balcony.

 

 

 Then suddenly, there was a pain worse than all previous ones I'd felt, and I immediately knew what was coming next..
